Government has become too invasive in many countries and its intervention into society should be reduced.

However, the issue is how to replace government. Neo-liberalism has no answer, except emphasizing individual freedom and the free enterprise.

But society is not a set of individuals. Reducing the powers of government is good, but it presupposes an increased capacity of society to manage itself.

Wherever a withdrawal of government from the economy has been conducted without the appropriate empowerment of civil society, social inequalities worsen, selfishness increase, and civil liberties eventually shrink.

TSCF urges more civic engagement into communities, unions, associations, religious movements, youth organizations, the justice system, as well as a stronger spirit of community, mutual support, negotiation and compromise – in other words, enhanced social capital.

These are the necessary components of an empowered civil society that could succeed at reducing the power of government.
