Immigration And Identity

by PATRICK HUNOUT & COLLABORATORS

SUMMARY

This work shows that immigration is a phenomenon that has been wanted by the ruling class of the Western countries more than sustained as a necessity.

Immigration is also more "political" than "economic": in a first stage, it secures the economic retribution of the ruling group but, in a second stage, it perpetuates the older, authoritarian ways to govern society, via the reconstruction of a new proletariat and the lengthening of the class structure.

Finally, immigration is a powerful factor of cultural anomie in our societies, favoring the atomization of society, destroying communitarian links, and eventually strengthening the power of the state, thus elevated to the status of main regulator and only guarantor of the social link.
